Another Fine Mess...

If you are employed or a director paid under PAYE, the chances are you have received a tax code recently. And there is a decent chance it will be wrong. HMRC have reportedly issued millions of incorrect tax codes following an amalgamation of 13 different systems into one national PAYE system.

People are receiving different codes for the same employment, codes for employments which have long since ceased, codes with incorrect, missing or inappropriate benefits included – the list goes on.

If you or your employees have received any tax codes in the last 3 months the advice has to be to check them carefully to ensure that they are correct. Otherwise there is a real risk of incorrect deductions being taken from salary starting in April 2010 and another fine mess to sort out after the end of the tax year.

For assistance with tax codes please speak to James Geary, Adam Kent or Dan Packwood in our Personal Tax department on 01905 732100.
